Scott Thompson

Educator & Cellist

After years of studying with world-renowned cello teachers—including Jennifer Culp, Ron Leonard, and Irene Sharp—I learned not only how to play my instrument, but also how to teach the gift of music.  I enjoy teaching cello because it allows me to share my passion for music and inspire others to explore their creativity and expressiveness through this beautiful instrument.  I work with people of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels.  I work closely with you to create an authentic learning environment to meet your musical goals.

Along with teaching and performing, I play cello bedside for people at the end of their lives. Listening to the cello offers people an opportunity for quiet introspection, presence, and beauty during this profound end-of-life experience and I have found this practice to be of great support to families.

As a professional educator, I have spent the last fifteen years teaching K-8 PE and coaching both youth and adult swimming in the East Bay. The skills I have helped students cultivate in their athletic pursuits translate to learning the Cello—both endeavors require integrity and also the development of specific movements with the body. As a teacher who has experience across disciplines, I have developed an instinctive teaching style that enables me to help each student specifically.
